Ages 3 and up. A blend of martial arts and fitness matched to age — building confidence,
discipline, and real athletic skills at X-Zen Sports in Greenville, SC.
The Youth program is the blended path. Young athletes who want pure wrestling or Muay Thai
have those doors too — and they all train under the same roof.
Youth classes blend the arts taught at X-Zen — and kids who find their favorite can go
deeper in dedicated youth classes for Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, and BJJ.

Coordination, balance, and real athletic movement
Focus and listening skills that carry off the mat

Homeschool Martial Arts
While most kids are in a classroom, homeschool families get the gym in daylight. Homeschool
Martial Arts runs Monday and Wednesday mornings at 11:30, with Fun Friday closing out the week — real
martial arts training, time with other kids, and a PE block your homeschooler will actually ask for.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch or drop off and run errands — whichever works for
your family. That goes for every youth class at X-Zen.

Cody Freeland has more than 34 years of martial arts training and over 17 years of experience
coaching competitive athletes. He holds a first-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a black
belt in American Kickboxing, a second-degree black belt in Kenpo Karate, and a brown belt in Krav Maga.
Cody won the 2006 IKF East Coast Classic and has coached multiple UFC fighters, including an
athlete who competed for a UFC championship. He also served as head coach for Team GAMMA USA.
His coaching is highly technical but intentionally simple. Cody works to condense decades of
knowledge into clear, practical instruction, meeting students at their current level and identifying
the details that will help them improve.
Beyond technical skill and competitive success, Cody wants martial arts to develop confidence,
discipline, and respect. He considers his students’ growth as people the greatest measure of
his success as a coach.
Damian Cruz
Youth & Teen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | Youth Martial Arts Coach
Damian Cruz is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt with 11 years of training and competition
experience and three years of coaching experience. His primary disciplines are BJJ and Muay Thai,
and he also competes as an amateur MMA fighter. Damian has competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu across
the country and earned multiple Fight of the Night and Performance honors in striking and MMA.
Damian describes his coaching style as stern but fair: work hard and play hard. He challenges
young athletes to train with purpose while creating an environment where they can enjoy themselves
and continually improve.
His goal is to help students develop hard work, respect, perseverance, and the confidence to face
difficult challenges. For Damian, seeing young athletes grow at school, at home, and on the mats is
the most rewarding part of coaching.
